Up to 90% of healthcare professionals perform posture evaluations incorrectly! 90%! How can you be in the top 10% of healthcare professionals doing posture examinations correctly? Simple, it’s called the Wade Technique for Postural Analysis.
The Wade Technique for Postural Analysis instantly validates your postural analysis, both for visual posture examinations, and with the utilization of Posture Imaging. The greatest objection with postural analyses is that: “When patients know their posture is being evaluated, they tend to fake good posture.” Whether it’s consciously or subconsciously, patients have a tendency to stand up straighter than normal because they are being evaluated.
The fundamental reason this is incorrect is that when a patient tries to fake their posture, even if it’s subconscious, it becomes clinically inaccurate. When the patient is then asked to repeat the posture on a follow up examination they are unable to duplicate that exact same position. So there is no way to accurately and objectively compare the changes that have taken place from pre and post treatment posture images.
It is impossible to correct the postural distortion patterns with inaccurate information collected during the initial evaluation. This lacks objectivity. The Wade Technique for Postural Analysis eliminates this concern so you can know with certainty that you are getting accurate clinical results.
How to Perform the Wade Technique for Postural Analysis:
How do you perform this technique? First you have the patient close their eyes. Then have them breath in fully and breathe out fully. As they exhale they are instructed to collapse their shoulders allowing their body to fall into normal posture. As soon as they breathe out, this is when the analysis should take place.
While performing Posture Imaging, and when doing a visual analysis, you make your analysis after the breath out and relax their body. Every time you are analyzing a different view of the Posture System, you will have the patient repeat the Wade Technique for Postural Analysis. For example, as they turn from anterior to lateral for their Posture Image, you would have them perform this again before taking the Posture Image of the lateral aspect of the body.
How the Wade Technique for Postural Analysis Validates Your Findings:
By closing their eyes, the patient has now eliminated the visual perception of their body in their environment, now relying primarily on their proprioceptive sense of the Posture System to hold themselves upright. By exhaling and allowing the shoulders to relax, the patient is no longer engaging their ancillary respiratory muscles.
When you see people take a big breath in you watch them raise their chest, demonstrating less trunk flexion. While they hold their breath in, their chest is raised and their shoulders are back. As soon as they breathe out, their chest collapses.
When they relax the ancillary muscle groups recruited for respiration, this is the patient’s natural posture. This is how they naturally hold themselves upright against gravity. More often than not, the patient will present with anterior displacement of the shoulders, forward head posture, and anterior trunk flexion that was not seen while they were breathing in.
For individuals with aligned postural design, you won’t see a great change in their posture (primarily trunk flexion) because they hold themselves upright with more efficiency. They use their diaphragm for deep breathing, so that it is not necessary to recruit their chest and trunk musculature.
Implement to Instantly Validate Your Posture Analyses:
The Wade Technique for Postural Analysis assures clinical precision. Back to that main objection, when utilizing this technique, patients simply cannot fake good posture. The Posture Expert has eliminated their visual field of gaze and has an accurate viewpoint of trunk and spinal positioning while performing the analysis.
Plus, when the Posture Expert performs the re-evaluation, they are assured that there is consistency among the posture assessments from the first visit to the follow up evaluation. If the Wade Technique for Postural Analysis is not used, there is no objective way of determining if the pre and post posture evaluations are valid.
You can implement the Wade Technique for Postural Analysis into your clinic immediately to improve your clinical precision with your patients. Remember, the quality of the care that you provide your patients is dependent upon the quality of your postural examination to determine where their postural distortion patterns are present. Clinical accuracy in the initial evaluation results in precise execution of correction strategies.
